MELISSA HASLAM
Melissa Haslam graduated with a Bachelor of Computing (Multimedia Technology) from Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. After working in computer graphics for a few years she found herself wanting to push her creative skills further and went back to school to study Visual Arts at RMIT, focusing on painting and drawing.
With an emphasis on narrative theme and a romanticized, escapist view of the world, her paintings are populated by beautiful females in fairytale-like scenarios. Influences include botanical drawings, the pre-raphaelites, japanese illustration and contemporary fashion photography.
KATIE SCOTT
Kate from Russia.
Peony Yip, Hongkong
“I’m Chinese. First language is still English but I’m still horrible in both Chinese and English. I just graduated from college, broke, doing freelance jobs. I’m not smart, not pretty, not sexy, not skinny, not sweet. I’m not here to tell you how passionate I am about drawing or my love for art or how much I want to open my own gallery and such. I’m just glad people like the stuff I make but I’m just an amateur who has millions of years of improving to do. I thank everyone who has given me permission to use their lovely photos as references! They’re truly a blessing and has beyond helped me! I also apologize for those that I can’t seem to find the source of the photos.”
JUSTIN MEZZELL
Justin Mezzell is an illustrator and designer currently based in Orlando, Florida. A graduate of the University of Central Florida, he specializes in illustration, digital art, and UI/UX design.
VALERO DOVAL
Valero Doval is a Spanish artist that combines hand drawn elements with collage, often cleverly piecing together objects with similar themes, which is evident in this illustration for Elephant magazine. Combining a bird with a plane is a simple yet elegant concept, and Valero executes it in a stunning way.
Valero distinctly separates his editorial work from his personal work on his website. Both sections are fun to look at, as his concepts are intriguing and colorful. My favorite section is his collection has to be of his circus pets, which combines vintage photographs of dogs and cats with various shapes in a humorous way.
ALEX VARANESE
A San Francisco-based artist characterized by an unhealthy fixation on red and a style that mixes 2D, 3D and typography in ways that I’d like to think are highly original but probably aren’t in the grand scheme of things.
PAT PERRY
Pat Perry is an artist and illustrator who calls Grand Rapids, Michigan home. The lands of the north, colorful people, music, and the ordinary streets of the Midwest have always moved him. In between showing his art from coast to coast or working with an assortment of clients, Pat travels as much as possible. Although he is happy to be able to speak and have an audience through his artwork, he does his best everyday to listen and learn from the world he lives in.
ISABEL ROCK
Isabel Rock was born in Hammersmith in 1981. In 2005 she graduated from the University of Brighton with a first in Fine Art Printmaking. She completed her Masters in Printmaking at the Royal College of Art in 2008. Rock has shown widely since graduating, including India, London, Paris and Manchester, and has work in many UK and Indian Collections, Most notably the David Roberts Collection.
Rock says of her work, ‘narratives are central to the work, using fables, fairy tales and folklore which fascinate me. I enjoy creating images and stories from a few facts, fabricating a surreal, impossible and sometimes ridiculous situation on paper. Stories are passed down by word of mouth from generation to generation, but like a game of Chinese whispers these tales can be embellished and distorted until eventually no one can say how much is true or make believe’
KAREENA ZEREFOS
Kareena is a Sydney born, London based artist, designer and flâneuse, who collects fine bone china tea sets, but prefers to drink coffee.
She has an unhealthy obsession with dangerously sharp 2B pencils, which may or may not be associated with her perfectionist Virgo tendencies… and her pencils, along with a yearning to escape to a world of make believe, lead her to create whimsical illustrative work with a sense of isolation and bittersweet nostalgia.
Having studied design at the College of Fine Arts (UNSW), Kareena’s work often combines traditional drawing with contemporary graphic techniques, with which she has the pleasure of working across a range of commercial projects for the music, fashion and advertising industries.
She loves the word ‘elephant’ (isn’t it just the best word ever?), her Italian greyhound called Pelle and visiting the Natural History Museum.
GABI PISERCHIA
Argentinian Fashion Designer and artist. Her works transmitted a special sensibility, the final result is a peaceful, feminine and a little nostalgic work, using desaturated colors, patterns combinations and natural elements. Actually, she is doing collaborations for different editorial magazines as an illustrator, and also working for a Fashion Company in Argentina as a Fashion Designer.
Gabi Piserchia has also coauthored with Lea Lobosco of Redimei, a project that converts from technological trashes to create new design objects.
